Rio Ferdinand has revealed Darren Fletcher was the teacher's pet of Manchester United, stating he "never got a bollocking ever" from Sir Alex Ferguson.
The
legendary Scot was well known for giving out-of-line players what
became known as the hairdryer treatment - or a good telling-off.
But
ex-Red Devils centre-back Ferdinand could not recall a moment his old
team-mate Fletcher stepped into Ferguson's bad books, joking that the
midfielder simply enjoyed their manager's favour.
"He must've actually been in one of our group chats we had last night with a few of the old United players," Ferdinand joked on BT Sport .
"Darren
Fletcher was Sir Alex Ferguson's pet. He was round the house for Sunday
lunch and stuff, or so I'm told! I never saw it, but that's the
rumours. Fletch never got a bollocking ever.
"Fletcher understood he was the teacher's pet, yeah."
Ferdinand
added that he remains in contact with a number of players from his Old
Trafford days, stating: "A few of us have a WhatsApp group. A few of the
lads, a few of the lads who played for United.
"And there's a few who can't even speak [English], like Anderson can't speak English but he just throws in the odd comment here and there."
